Bowon Vongsinudom, president of the company responsible for the oil spill, said that the cleanup at Ao Phrao is slated for completion next week.
He said that all oil-containing big bags should be shipped out of the island within August 3, under the close monitoring of the Pollution Control Department. He noted that the thin oil film seen from the sky would be naturally dissolved through time. Related government agencies would be involved in inspecting the area after the cleanup is complete.
He noted that the company is in the process of drafting rehabilitation plan, which requires Rayong's approval.
PTTGC will today discuss with local residents and business operators on the island over compensation.
