Consumer confidence declines in July

The consumer confidence index declined in July in light of dimmer economic and political outlook. This is the straight decline for the fourth month in a row.

The University of Thai Chamber of Commerce's survey showed that in July, the confidence index went down from 81.6 points in the previous month to 80.03.
The survey showed that all indices showed a decline.
Confidence in economic outlook went down from 71.8 points in June to 70.6 in July, confidence in job opportunity down from 73.5 to 72.4, while confidence in income down from 99.3 to 97.9.
This followed the Bank of Thailand's downward revision in 2013 economic growth forecast in light of increasing global uncertainties and the oil spill in Rayong.
Political concerns following the enforcement of the Internal Security Act and the political rally also pressured the confidence.
Positive factors in the month included the Bank of Thailand's decision to maintain the policy rate, the weakening baht against US dollar and the maintenance of diesel price.
