NBTC backs proposed amendment to frequency law

The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission shows its support to the ICT Ministry's plan to amend the Frequency Allocation Act BE2010.

NBTC vice chairman Settapong Malisuwan said on Tuesday that some parts of the law need to be amended for greater clarity.
The ministry plans some amendments, widely expected to allow TOT and CAT Telecom to keep the 1,800MHz frequency. Under the law, the state agencies need to return the frequency to NBTC for re-allocation.
On this, Settapong said that the law is clear to have NBTC re-allocate the frequency. He noted that ICT has never objected to that.
The NBTC plans to re-allocate the frequency in September 2014. 4G service will be provided under the frequency.
