In the interview with Krungthep Turakij TV's "Morning News" programme, Peter J. van Haren said the Thai economy just demonstrated a technical recession and foreigners tend to focus more on economic fundamentals.
He admitted that the sharp fall in the stock exchange indicated a problem in the Thai economy, but he understood that the sharp fall was attributable to huge investment inflows. Meanwhile, lower exports and slowing growth should be temporary.
This does not worry foreign investors, though, he said. Thailand's unemployment rate remains low and there is no sign of crisis.
He also said that foreign investors, focusing more on economic fundamentals, are not worried with the intensifying political conflict, as this has continued for nearly 10 years.
