HP banks on 'new style of IT'

Hewlett-Packard (Thailand) says it will now focus on the "new style" of information technology as it serves consumers and the enterprise market. As a result, it expects double-digit revenue growth this year.

Dhanawat Suthumpun, manager of HP Thailand’s enterprise group, said the “new style of IT” comprised four areas: cloud, security, big data and mobility.
HP will cooperate with business partners such as service providers to provide cloud service. This will serve three areas: private cloud, hybrid cloud and public cloud. With the private cloud, HP will focus on the education and energy sectors. For the hybrid and public clouds, it will cover small and medium-sized business as well as the government sector.
The company will provide security solutions, consulting and other services to support enterprise business.
For the big-data area, HP will focus on solutions that help to manage unstructured data, which affects more than 90 per cent of business. It will target larger enterprises such as retail, telecommunications and banking industries for this service.
Dhanawat said the company also provided visual desktop infrastructure (VDI) solutions to support business mobility. This allows officers and staff to work anywhere. In line with this, HP several weeks ago came out with the Slash 7 tablet, which features a 7-inch display and is priced at Bt4,990.
“I think that our new direction will support client needs and client behaviour, which will be able to create competitive advantage,” he said. “It will also help businesses survive high competition. Therefore, we will create unique and valued-added services for customers.
“The new style of IT, which we see as a transformational shift bridging the consumer and enterprise, has almost unprecedented reach and impact.”
The “new style of IT” concept is now a paradigm of Hewlett-Packard worldwide after the headquarters officially announced the new strategy a couple of months ago.
Dhanawat added that the firm this year expected revenue growth in the double digits.
