Dana plans new gear plant in Rayong

Dana Holding Corporation will construct a state-of-the-art gear-manufacturing operation in Rayong to support growing customer demand for Spicer brand axles in the region.

“Dana is committed to delivering differentiated innovations for growth markets such as Thailand,” Mark Wallace, president of Dana’s light-vehicle driveline technologies unit, said yesterday.
“By expanding our gear development and manufacturing capabilities in the region, Dana will deliver programmes more efficiently and be equipped to handle projected market growth.”
When the plant opens next year, it will have the capacity to deliver 600,000 gear sets to the region.
For more than two decades, Dana has supported major auto-makers in Thailand and elsewhere in the region, including Ford, Mazda, Nissan, Suzuki and Tata, with the production of axles and driveshafts.
It employs 650 people at three facilities in this country. About 125 jobs will be added to support the expansion.
Dana is a world-leading supplier of driveline, sealing and thermal-management technologies for passenger, commercial and off-highway vehicles with both conventional and alternative-energy power trains.
The company’s global network of engineering, manufacturing, and distribution facilities provides original-equipment and aftermarket customers with local product and service support.
Based in Maumee, Ohio, it employs more than 23,000 people in 26 countries and reported sales of US$7.2 billion (Bt230 billion) last year.
