Banks to close on Dec 30

The Bank of Thailand declared December 30 a holiday, which would extend the New Year holiday period to 5 days.

The maximum period of holiday period for financial institutions in Thailand has so far been four days, to ensure no business disruption. The government earlier declared December 28-31 and January 1 as the New Year holiday period, for government agencies and state enterprises. Most companies' holiday period depends on the working days of financial institutions.
In an announcement, the central bank said that this would support the tourism industry and boost the overall economy. It said announcing the holiday period in advance would allow enough time for adjustment among business companies. Thus, this should not send a significant impact on the financial sector and the economy.
It also noted that though Dec 30 is declared a holiday, financial institutions can consider opening some branches, like those at shopping malls, on the condition that the institutions' employees are properly taken care of.
