Govt to use various media to push exports

The International Trade Promotion Department will use more media and online channels in target markets to try to revitalise export growth next year.

Nuntawan Sakuntanaga, director-general of the department, said it would use various media overseas so that Thai goods would be recognised worldwide. Magazines, television and billboards will be used in many countries.
“Thai trade ambassadors in 63 countries worldwide are drawing up plans to penetrate each market. They will categorise which types of products should be promoted in each market and specific media for advertising them,” she said.
For instance, food products will be promoted in food magazines or TV shows about cooking.
Moreover, product promotions next year will be focused on specific markets, such as the elderly, educational institutes and institutional consumers.
In addition, the department will focus on online trading. It will encourage more businesses, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises and Otop (One Tambon One Product) traders, to use online channels to lower their operational costs while accessing widespread groups of buyers.
Besides promoting exports of goods, the department will also encourage export of services such as digital content, including software, games, animations, songs, TV dramas and movies, as well as event organising.
Nuntawan said exports next year were expected to grow more than this year amid a brighter global economic outlook.
On November 11, Commerce Minister Niwatthumrong Boonsongpaisan is scheduled to meet with trade associations to discuss export figures and promotional plans for next year.
