Protests to pressure consumption: Commerce official

Commerce Permanent Secretary Srirat Ratspana Thursday expressed concern over the prolonged anti-government project's impact on domestic consumption.

She was also concerned with the confidence of manufacturers and overseas traders.
Still, she said it is not yet necessary for commercial counsellors to explain the current political situation to overseas parties, which have made orders for Thai goods.
"No violence is expected. Thus, this should not affect the manufacturing and export. For now, we're concerned that the protests would pressure domestic consumption, though this should not lead to deflation," she said.
Regarding the protesters' call for strike, she said any officers of the ministry can take days off to join the protests. Saying that all must respect others' opinions, she added that there are no irregularities on vacation applications.  She also urged all to thoroughly digest information.
