Widening of R&D incentives urged

Thailand Development Research Institute (TDRI) urged the government to further promote research and development (R&D) activities, as it would be guide the country towards quality economic growth.

TDRI president Somkiat Tangkitvanich said that the current tax incentive is not enough. While the government allows companies to deduct taxable income by 200 per cent of the R&D investment value, that should be widened.
Moreover, the criteria should also be extended to cover more areas, he said at the annual conference under the "New Development Model Towards Quality Growth: Productivity Enhancement" theme.
The government and the private sector are also urged to find ways to promote collaboration with university researchers.
Isara Vongkusolkit, chairman of Thai Chamber of Commerce, said that as a member of the National Science and Technology Development Agency's board, he is now encouraging the collaboration with researchers and food companies.
