According to Tourism Minister Somsak Pureesrisak, Narin Tijayung, the director of the Tourism Authority of Thailand office in Moscow, said that the Russian Union of Travel Industry (RUTI) submitted a letter to the Moscow office following a road accident in Chon Buri, when a double decker bus they were travelling on overturned on the highway. Four of those traveling were in a serious condition after the accident. It threatens to boycott Thailand if the standards are not improved.
The RUTI unites about one thousand companies, the activity of which is connected with tourism. It brings together travel agencies, hotels, sanatoriums, mass media, educational institution, transportation companies and other organisations, that work in the travel and leisure industry.
Somsak said that the joint discussion is necessary as this issue involves not just his ministry. The Russian ambassador to Thailand will also be invited.
"The ministry promises to take the best care of all tourists, from whatever nation," he said. "We need to find out what is the reason for the increasing accidents to Russian tourists."
