Myanmar's gas supply resumes

Myanmar resumed its natural gas supply to Thailand at 6pm of January 13, according to the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand.

EGAT governor Soonchai Kumnoonsate said that the annual maintenance shutdown was completed on schedule. Due to the shutdown during December 31-January 14, gas supply from two gas fileds were stopped and affected six power plants in the West of Thailand.
During the period, the power plants switched to bunker oil and diesel, consuming 67 million litres and 12 million litres of such fuel, respectively.
Soonchai noted that though no negative impact was witnessed during the disruption, for long-term power security Thailand still needs to reduce the natural gas consumption for power generating. Natural gas accounts for 70 per cent of fuel used for the generating.
