Finance to borrow Bt20bn a week

The Finance Ministry is set to borrow Bt20 billion a week to pay farmers under the rice-pledging scheme, said an official of the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives (BAAC).

Executive Vice President Somsak Kangteerawat said on Monday that once BAAC receives the proceeds, it would rush on paying out to rice farmers.
He expected the payment process to be completed within the middle of March.
He also urged all employees to put their best effort in paying out the money, as the bank's farmer clients are in deep financial troubles. They may have to work at weekends, he said.
