Sub panels to help examine govt spending

Sub panels to help examine govt spending

The committee examining public sector spending yesterday set up four sub-committees to help with the task.

The members of the committee, which was founded by the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO), convened to determine the committee’s working framework.
It will focus on ethics and morality, accountability, honesty and transparency, said junta spokesman Yongyuth Mayalarp.
Each sub-committees will focus on a particular area – analysing the feasibility of projects; procurement and spending, finances and accounts; and special examinations of state projects and budget disbursement to state enterprises.
Yongyuth liked the sub-committee handling special examinations to a police SWAT team. Once it identifies a suspicious project, it will immediately investigate.
The sub-committees will comprises representatives of the Comptroller General’s Department, the Budget Bureau, the Office of the Auditor General, the National Social and Economic Development Board, and state agencies that inspect projects.
This month, involved parties will have to provide information on the flood and water management project and the One Tablet, One Student project.
On Wednesday, the overseeing committee will decide how to proceed with the state mega projects.
The projects with no problems will be forwarded to the NCPO for consideration. The junta will convene every Tuesday to consider the projects.
