No forced labour in Thai seafood industry
Eight seafood and fishery associations announced today that they have all measures in hand against forced labour in the industry.
Poj Aramwattananont, president of the Thai Frozen Foods Association, said that the United States' decision to downgrade Thailand to Tier 3 in the 2014 Trafficking in Persons report is not fair.
The eight associations insisted that they used no child labour in the production process or forced labour to work under harsh condition.
They said that there are harsh measures to punish any delinquent exporters. Violating the measures, some were barred from exporting their products.
There will be no retaliation to the US decision, Poj said. The industry just aimed to boost confidence among importing countries of its international standards.
