EGATi eyes 1,200MW power plant in Quang Tri, Vietnam

EGAT International, a subsidiary of state-owned Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand, is set to invest in a coal-fired power plant in Vietnam.

The memorandum of understanding was signed on June 24 between the company's chief, and Le Tuan Phong, deputy director general of Vietnam's Ministry of Industry and Trade, for the construction of the 1,200-megawatt power plant in Quang Tri, where a special economic zone is located.
According to EGATi's announcement, the first generator with 600MW capacity is scheduled for commercial commencement in June, 2021. The second unit will start around December 2021.
Electricity from the Quang Tri power plant will be sold to the government for 25 years.
EGATi is expected to submit the environmental assessment report within December 2014. The approval will pave way for the power purchase agreement and concession contract, the company said.
