He hosted a press conference today, following criticisms on his appointment as PTT's chairman.
"I'm here to work. I never asked for this position. I'm not surprised why these same people opposed the appointment. Feeding misunderstanding and distorted information is easy. It spreads quickly and satisfies online readers," he said.
Piyasvasti was a former energy minister. Prior to his appointment, he also leads a group of energy experts, promoting sustainable energy reform.
He said today that the group's proposal would be tabled at PTT's board meeting, admitting that it is up to the board to vote on the plan and several measures need the government's support.
The proposal calls for, for instance, the establishment of an independent company to operate the national gas pipeline and PTT's divestiture of shares in Bangchak Petroleum and Star Petroleum Refining (SPRC) to boost market competition.
Piyasvasti also promised to look into PTT's investment, particularly overseas deals as some incurred losses. He noted that this is a contentious issue for local media, the public and institutional investors.
