JSL was one of five content producers in the country to establish a strategic production-house unit last year in preparation for the digitisation of national free TV – which resulted in the six incumbent analog channels being joined by 24 digital channels.
Noppakorn Thongman, managing director of Content Lab, said yesterday that within two years the company wanted to have five TV stations as clients to produce format programmes acquired from overseas.
Once the new clients are on board, Noppakorn said, the company expects to generate at least Bt250 million in billings.
He said Content Lab would focus on delivering international shows to serve local demand and developing its own content to sell overseas.
Content Lab produces for Channel 7 “Keep Your Light Shining”, a talent show distributed by Turkey-based Global Agency.
It also produces “Junior Bake Off”, a baking-competition series licensed by the British Broadcasting Corp, for Now 26 – a variety station owned by Nation Multimedia Group.
The company has also developed and produced its own show, “Martial Warrior”, which is broadcast via TrueVisions, a leading pay-TV operator.
Noppakorn said he aimed to export “Martial Warrior” globally, with the company in talks with networks in North America. He is confident a deal will be signed soon.
The revenue from exported content is expected to be realised within the next three years, he said.
Content Lab’s strategic partner is Repucom, and one of its executive producers is well-known industry identity Gavin Wood.
Given those two things, Noppakorn said the company aimed to be one of the most preferred strategic production partners for local broadcasters, advertisers and advertising agencies.
Wood has been in the TV format development business for 36 years.
