MOBILE VIDEOS POPULAR, SAYS BUZZCITY REPORT

Videos delivered over mobile Internet platforms are the emerging channel of choice for consumers.
This finding was revealed in the latest global quarterly report on the mobile Internet by BuzzCity, a mobile advertising network.
“The results and trends among many of the 25 markets surveyed are very similar, and strongly support predictions that mobile video in Thailand is the fast-emerging channel for content and advertisers,” said BuzzCity’s chief executive officer and co-founder, Dr KF Lai.
The BuzzCity poll about online video-watching trends surveyed 5,400 people in 25 countries, including Thailand. The survey ran from August 24 to September 1. The key global finding was that 84 per cent of mobile surfers watch online videos, 56 per cent download them, and 30 per cent watch via online sharing sites.
“In Thailand, the mobile video trend is growing rapidly as connection speeds improve and more affordable data plans are introduced. Demand for content is also rising – for example, the latest series of the ‘Hormones’ show was available online soon after it aired on television. And a popular youth channel like VRZO has more than 2.3 million subscribers on YouTube,” Lai said.
“The pick-up in consumer popularity, however, has not been matched by advertisers. Advertisers can no longer afford to work digital channels as independent media – they must adopt a digital approach across devices.”
“Up to now, they have taken a ‘wait and see’ stance. These global results show we have reached a tipping point, and advertisers who remain cautious run the risk of being less relevant in the highly competitive media market.”
When it comes to viewing videos, smartphones are the most widely used device (75 per cent). The most popular content items include free-to-air pieces (43 per cent), movies and TV shows (29 per cent) and short videos (23 per cent).

TAT BRINGS OUT 'FAMILY'
The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), in collaboration with Family Travel magazine and the Central Bundid Noi Club, has called on everyone to invite family members to go on special holidays together through the “Family Holiday Project” and the Family Holiday Guidebook. The guidebook also seeks to generate tourism-related income in target areas.
“The family institution is crucial for improving the quality of life and strengthening society,” said Pataraporn Sithivanich, executive director of the TAT’s product promotion department. “If love and warmth exist in families, society will benefit.
