Solar power to reach 4.5-5GW in 10 years

The government will promote the generation of 4.5-5 gigawatts from solar cells within 10 years, up from 3.8GW at present.
The support covers both solar farms and solar rooftops, Energy Minister Narongchai Akrasanee told a seminar yesterday.
Next year the ministry will urge projects that have yet to produce 1.01GW in total to rush operations.
According to the ministry, 294 solar farms have started selling 1.32GW to the grid, while 14 with total capacity of 296 megawatts have signed sales contracts but have yet to supply the power. There are 178 that have applied to sell 1.01GW.

New hotel school to open in late 2015

Late next year, Dusit International will launch the Dusit Thani Hotel School, Thailand’s first hospitality school based on Asean Common Competency Standards for Tourism Professionals.
The school, which will offer a complete curriculum at both certificate and diploma levels, covering all areas of hotel operations, will operate separately from Dusit Thani College.

Credits from the Dusit Thani Hotel School are also transferable to higher-education institutions throughout the country.
The Dusit Thani Hotel School in central Bangkok will offer up to 1,300 students 7,000 square metres of learning space, nine classrooms, two language laboratories, two IT labs with the latest software programs, three demonstration kitchens, three practical kitchens, and mock-up rooms of key hotel areas, such as front office, housekeeping, restaurants and bars.
