The Interior Ministry has agreed with the Finance Ministry to increase the rates of property and local maintenance taxes to be in line with the real-estate tax that will be implemented in 2017.
Krisada Chinavicharana, director-general of the Fiscal Policy Office, said yesterday that the Finance Ministry had been discussing with the Interior Ministry the land and construction regulations.
The Interior Ministry is considering gradually raising its property and local maintenance tax rates to be in line with the new rate of land and construction taxes so that landowners and developers can adjust to the change.
The government does not expect any additional income from the revision.
“The Interior Ministry is considering the improvement of the local maintenance tax, which is based on land value. However, from the tax base, the median price of land from 1978 to 1981 was much lower than the market price.
“Such median land prices need to be reviewed, while the new land and construction regulations have not been enforced yet,” he said.
