Managing director Noppakorn Thongman said yesterday that after launching the company and the success of the reality show "Martial Warrior" last year, he saw a huge opportunity to produce TV formats for broadcasting networks. The company has granted a licensing deal to produce the "Martial Warrior Vietnam" show for Dien Quan Media and Entertainment.
"Other potential markets for this Thai TV format are [mainland] China, Taiwan and South Korea. Talks are now under way," Noppakorn said.
He said the company decided to develop at least five TV formats for the local market and for Asia, Europe and North America.
He said he could disclose the names of only two of the five TV formats – "The Hospital", a situation comedy about life in a hospital, and "Dog Talent", a talent competition show for dogs.
"Dog Talent" is expected to be aired this year on a digital channel, with "The Hospital" following soon.
However, TV production for local broadcasters still contributes 70 per cent of Content Lab’s total revenue, with the balance coming from TV format licensing fees from overseas partners. For the next two years, revenue from licence fees is expected to make up 90 per cent of its total income, with local TV production contributing just 10 per cent.
In the domestic market, Content Lab produced "Martial Warrior" Season 1 and "Keep Your Light Shining Thailand" Season 1 for Channel 7 and "Junior Bake Off Thailand" Season 1 for Now 26 digital channel.
Noppakorn said the company |was preparing new seasons of the shows.
Content Lab targets Bt400 million in revenue by 2017, compared with last year’s total of Bt160 million.
