Most of the 67 projects are related to industries promoted by the government’s investment and economic policies, Hiranya Sujinai, acting secretary-general of the BoI, said yesterday.
The list includes software development to support the digital economy, alternative sources of energy such solar and biomass, international trading centres and international headquarters.
Other projects include those underlining the government’s policy to add value to agricultural goods, such as raw palm oil, green fuel and charcoal briquettes, natural rubber gloves, logistics and shipping.
Most of the projects belong to industries that the government believe are necessary to boost the country’s competitiveness and push it out of the middle-income league of nations.
To ensure integration of investment information and data among various agencies and organisations, Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha, who chairs the 18-member BoI, approved the establishment of a committee tasked with compiling and analysing all investment information, data and variables that could affect investment, especially labour in general terms and core industry-specific terms.
The information would help the BoI to set effective policies and attractive investment incentives to cope with the changing economic and investment climate and support private investments on a continuing basis.
The BoI is represented by prominent figures from various ministries such as industry, commerce and finance, the National Economic and Social Development Board, Board of Trade, Federation of Thai Industries, Thai Bankers Association, Bank of Thailand, Thai Business Management Association, SMEs Promotion Association, Industrial Economics Office, Thai Hotels Association and Retailers Association.
