BEC to revise programming on three channels

BY MIDYEAR, BEC World, the owner of four licences to operate analog and digital television channels, plans to revamp three of its channels in order to build the confidence of its clients and advertisers to invest in its media outlets.

Surin Krittiyaphongphun, executive vice president of BEC World’s Bangkok Entertainment Company (BEC), said yesterday that its flagship Channel 3, which is available on both the old analog platform and via digital channel 3HD, would be reprogrammed around the middle of the year. The programme changes would be in afternoon slots during the weekends.
By partnering with international and local TV production houses, Surin believes BEC can make the line-up more entertaining for those watching Channel 3 from 1pm to 3pm on weekends. After the change, the company aims to raise its advertising rates from the current Bt380,000 per minute.
For 3SD, another variety digital channel, the company has prepared sports content.
The highlights will be UEFA Euro 2016 football qualifying and MotoGP motorcycle racing. The sports programmes will be aired in prime time.
For the 3 Family digital channel, Surin said the highlighted changes would be in the morning and evening prime times slots, 9.30am to 10am and 4pm to 6pm. Those prime-time slots will be reserved for children.
To help make this channel number one for children and families, the company has entered a strategic partnership with Turner Broadcasting System Asia Pacific, the distributor of leading cable channels CNN International, Cartoon Network and Toonami.
Surin added that by the end of this year, 3 Family channel would generate about Bt100 million in revenue.
An analyst from Bualuang Securities predicted that the cost of running BEC’s 3SD and 3 Family channels alone would be about Bt900 million this year.
