Panchai Singhsachathep, chairman of the Thai-Sikh Foundation, said the investment had been allocated to the international school on 30 rai (4.8 hectares) in Samut Prakan province to improve its instructional media and laboratories.
The Thai-Sikh International School is typical of educational institutions preparing for the Asean Economic Community (AEC). The British CIS (Council of International Schools) curriculum has been applied. It also resembles other international schools all over the world in terms of imbuing cultures.
“A few years ago, the domestic education [system] was dramatically changed. This may be because the AEC was approaching, so there have been a lot of adjustments.
“We are well prepared already. When the time comes, there will be more and more students from abroad studying in Thailand because at present Thai education is considered of a higher standard than in many other countries, so students from many countries want to study here,” Panchai said.
In the future, the school intends to provide funds for students at the college level, both domestically and abroad. Currently, the Dalyi Guru Ram Sikh Foundation supports more than 1,000 funds for both primary and secondary education.
The dean from various institutions would choose the student to continue the education in universities both in Thailand and abroad such as England or India that the school take part in coordinating without any condition or obligation that the students must come back to return the received fund. It targets that within 2016, there would be more than 20 per cent increase of students.
