A BOI team led by Industry Minister Chakramon Phasukavanich held a roadshow in South Korea from Wednesday to Friday last week. BOI acting secretary-general Hirunya Suchinai said more than 250 Korean investors attended a BOI seminar. They inquired about details of tax privileges in ICT investment and special economic zones.
They are particularly interested in Thailand’s railway projects, environment-friendly industries, auto parts, and entertainment content.
Chakramon said Korean steel and railway-stock companies were keen to take part in either the Bangkok-Pattaya rail project or the Bangkok-Hua Hin route.

PUSH FOR INSURANCE
Exim Thailand has encouraged exporters to obtain export credit insurance to protect their businesses against non-payment risk after an increase in overseas payment defaults and insurance claims in the first quarter of 2015, particularly relating to luxury products.
Suthanai Prasertsan, acting president of Export-Import Bank of Thailand, said that with regard to international trade risks in 2015, exporters must keep an eye on past-due and non-payment by overseas buyers, as economic uncertainties persist. Although insolvencies are expected to decline, delayed payments are likely to increase in Asia, North America and Europe.
Suthanai said that in the first quarter, the number of Exim Thailand’s export credit insurance clients facing delayed payments doubled from the same period last year. Nine insured clients made claims totalling Bt13.93 million. Seven cases totalling Bt10.12 million derived from buyers’ bankruptcies, while the other two, worth Bt3.81 million, were from overseas non-payment.
