BANGKOK Broadcasting and Television (BBTV), the operator of Channel 7 HD, has paid the second instalment of its digital TV licence fee, valued at Bt638.73 million, to the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission.

NBTC general-secretary Takorn Tantasith confirmed yesterday that his administration had received the payment on Thursday afternoon. Channel 7 HD was the first to do so, ahead of the May 24 due date.
Unlike other digital TV broadcasters, BBTV has never expressed any interest in a one-year reprieve on the second instalment.
In any case, those broadcasters’ hope for a delay appeared to fade after the NBTC’s broadcasting committee decided it needed to consult further with the Attorney-General’s Office, Auditor-General’s Office and National Anti-Corruption Commission on the issue.
It seems unlikely those consultations will be concluded before the due date.
