Onyx to manage seven more hotels in China

BANGKOK-based Onyx Hospitality Group will manage seven hotels in China that will be completed by 2018, on top of 11 existing properties.

Simon Dell, general manager for North Asia, said yesterday that the first hotel would be the Shama Caojiadu Shanghai near the Jingan area, which is one of the city’s central business districts.
The property is the first cooperation with Shanghai Bao Shun Investment Co. This fifth Shama serviced apartment in Shanghai will feature 168 units, consisting of studios and one-bedroom, two-bedroom and three-bedroom apartments. Facilities will include breakfast cove, fitness centre, lounge and kids’ playground when it opens in 2017.
The next project, the OZO Shishi Xiamen, belongs to Shishi Minnan Golden Coast Resort Co.
Part of the “Gold Coast” beachfront complex, the hotel will feature 213 rooms, OZO signature facilities such as the EAT all-day dining outlet with an integrated pool bar, Splash swimming pool, Tone fitness centre, Talk meeting room and EAT2GO grab-and-go outlet. The project will begin operations by 2017.
“To drive Onyx’ expansion plans in China, Onyx looks for strategic alliances with leading property developers. The partnership with Shanghai Bao Shun Investment and Shishi Minnan Golden Coast will definitely strengthen our presence in the region,” Dell said.
Other properties in the China pipeline are the Amari Huidong Guangdong, Shama Beijing, Shama Chengdu and Shama Guangzhou, and Amari Dali Yunnan.
Onyx is targeting prime cities, such as Xiamen and Shenzhen, with several potential projects under development. The company manages 58 properties in 10 countries, 39 of which are operational, equating to more than 6,000 rooms.
