Products in high demand in Canada include hair care, men’s and children’s products, cosmetics and skincare products, the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) said yesterday.
In 2014, it said Canada imported 3.7 million ringgit (Bt33.2 million) worth of beauty and personal care products from Malaysia, an increase of 10 per cent compared to 2013.
The top five Malaysian products exported to Canada were powder-puffs and pads for the application of cosmetics; room perfuming or deodorising preparations; toothpaste, denture cleaners and dentifrices; deodorant and anti-perspirant; as well as dental floss.
MATRADE’s trade commissioner in Toronto, Norzihan Mohd Zain, said the latest trend in the market shows a growing demand for organic/natural cosmetic products as Canadians are more cautious of their surroundings and chemical ingredients in their daily products.
“There are also opportunities for Malaysian companies to supply ingredients to manufacturers of cosmetics and personal care products here,” she said.
She also encouraged Malaysian companies to consider appointing a representative or distributor in Canada to do marketing and brand-building activities for their products and to carry out market research before securing an agent, representative or distributor for their products.
