The facility, which sits on 52,800 square metres of land, will start operating as a distribution warehouse this month. The integrated logistics centre will optimise logistics and reduce costs by consolidating four existing warehouses for final products and several other distribution functions for air-conditioning-system parts.
The manufacturing of air-conditioning systems will start next year, raising Mitsubishi Electric Consumer Products (Thailand)’s annual production capacity from 5 million units at present to 7 million units by the fiscal year ending in March 2019.
"Not only will the new base optimise our logistics system, it will also strengthen our manufacturing capabilities," said So Suzuki, president of the company’s Thailand unit. "The global market for air-conditioning systems is growing rapidly, particularly in emerging markets, so this new production site is part of our strategy to meet demand in 142 countries."
Mitsubishi Electric also manufactures air-conditioning systems in Japan, Britain, China and Mexico. The company recorded consolidated group sales of 4.323 trillion yen in the fiscal year ended March 31, 2015.
Mitsubishi Electric Consumer Products (Thailand), established in 1989 and located at Amata Nakorn Industrial Estate in Chon Buri province, is Mitsubishi Electric’s manufacturing base for air-conditioning systems exported to global markets. The company has about 6,000 employees.
