BX Centre to tackle HR shortage

BX Centre to tackle HR shortage

G-ABLE Group, a local IT firm, has joined hands with King Mongkut's University of Technology Thonburi to set up the Big Data eXperience Centre as the hub of Big Data services in Thailand.

“The BX Centre will address the country’s Big Data human resource shortage through utilisation of the university’s 11 areas of data scientists through knowledge transfer,” Tiranee Achalakul, associate dean for Educational Development, said yesterday.

The aim is to prepare Thailand for Big Data, which is the technology trend driving Thailand to the forefront of the competition in the digital era, Nart Liuchareon, chief executive officer, said yesterday.

BX Centre will construct an ecosystem to accelerate collaboration among stakeholders such as implementers, investors, academia, technology providers, regulators and businesses, both big corporations and small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

The advantages of the ecosystem approach are that it is goal-driven and based on the collaboratively developed vision of desired future cooperation conditions.

Tiranee said the centre will accelerate education in the form of training in areas surrounding Big Data; sharing of ideas and best practices in the business domains of telecom, banking, healthcare, manufacturing, retail and government services; and case studies and prototypes.

The 100-squater-metre facility provides a wide range of services including co-working space, seminar training and meeting facilities, Big Data courses and an event space for demos of products and services.

All services are free for members. The cost is sponsored by the technology partners. The BX Centre aims to have more than 1,000 members this year, of whom 30 per cent will be students, 30 per cent developers and 40 per cent SMEs and corporations.

The technology partners are IBM, Microsoft, EMC-Pivotol, Informatica, Cloudera, Oracle, Cisco, Tableau, Insightera and CA Technology.

The BX Centre is part of the Knowledge Exchange Centre for innovation.

Sakarindr Bhumiratana, president of the university, said Big Data is one of the potential domains. The others are automobiles, food, electronics, IT and design.

The model is to find a main partner for each domain and other technology and innovation partners to support each domain.

“The move is part of the main duty of the university as an education institution to help strengthen the competitiveness of the country through utilisation of the university’s resources and cooperation with partners to strengthen SMEs and corporations with innovations,” he said.
