Located in the Krungthep Kreetha area, the international college will open its pre-prep school in September 2016 for pupils aged two to eight, and the remainder of its campus will be opened in 2017.
Brighton College Bangkok will be situated on a 51-rai (8-hectare) plot of land. It says it will recruit qualified teachers whose goals are to inspire and motivate each pupil’s passions, creating the best version of the individual for success within his or her chosen field.
Nusara (Assakul) Banyatpiyaphod, chairwoman of Hands Management Company, said the company had invested about Bt1.8 billion for the overall project. Besides bringing the renowned Brighton College brand and curriculum to Thailand, it will select the best staff who meet Brighton College’s world-class standards, and construct a one-of-a-kind campus that will stimulate the students’ eagerness to be inspired and intellectually challenged.
She is certain that there is still high demand for excellent international schools in Thailand as parents are increasingly interested in giving their children a world-class education as a result of today’s globalisation.
At the same time, Thailand has been welcoming an increasing number of expatriates who pursue their businesses or careers in Bangkok. These expatriates are also seeking the best education for their children with standards as high as in Europe or North America.
Brighton College says its students are widely known as scholars who achieve exceptional academic results and the college itself has been awarded many titles, including “The UK Independent School of the Year 2013-2014” and Tatler magazine’s “Headmaster of the Year”.
“The reason we decided to select Brighton College is that the school impressed us greatly during our campus visit to the UK,” Nusara said. “Its students are academically intelligent and talented in diverse fields, yet they are naturally polite and proud to showcase themselves as they truly are.
“Moreover, we believe that Brighton College’s inspirational visions and unique teaching methods are the key to encouraging children to think beyond borders with the support from their instructors. ‘Learning by doing’ is the most effective teaching approach to cultivate students’ appreciation of their skills and will help them discover their own abilities and passions.
“Being excellent in Brighton’s way, however, does not merely refer to academic performance, but also the ability to be the best version of oneself in the way their talents lead them to be.”
Brighton College Bangkok has announced the appointment of David Tongue as founding headmaster of the third premium international school to open under the Brighton College brand.
Tongue is currently headmaster of Brighton College Al Ain, which under his leadership has become the highest-ranked school in Abu Dhabi. Before joining the Brighton College family of schools, David held a successful headship in South America and was curriculum director of one of Europe’s leading schools.
Along with the opening of the Asean Economic Community at the end of this year, the fact that there is much competition in the education industry in Thailand and abroad will likely create an exceptional opportunity for the international-school business in Thailand.
The Bangkok campus will comprise a pre-prep school, prep school and senior school, along with world-class facilities including a performing-arts centre, a learning resource centre, art, drama, dance and music centres, and a sports complex.
