True Group has invested more than Bt200 billion in establishing telecommunications services and infrastructure covering all of Thailand over the past 20 years and is ready to drive the country’s readiness to become a regional “digital economy” hub, said president and chief executive officer Suphachai Chearavonont.
“Our broadband Internet network will reach 10 million households nationwide by 2017, up from the current 6 million,” Suphachai said.
True services range from fixed-line broadband Internet to third- and fourth-generation wireless broadband services.
Teerasak Arunrermwattana, group director of brand communication and media management, said True had spent around Bt60 million on the new brand-awareness campaign. However, that does not include the cost of hiring six actors and actresses as the campaign’s presenters.
The campaign highlights five innovative solutions offered by True. The first is “Smart Life”, which are gadgets and smart devices, while “Smart Home” consists of digital technologies and devices that integrate comfort and safety and deliver entertainment to all family members.
The third solution is “Smart Building”, which provides security, comfort and control via centralised systems, including cloud-based closed-circuit TV, car-park recognition, and ID and passport recognition.
Fourth is “Smart Business”, which optimises business operations for greater competitiveness, lower costs, and operational flexibility, such as through a smart office, which lets people work anywhere at any time via cloud services.
Finally, “Smart City” offers an emergency response and dispatch solution operated from a command and control room, city surveillance cameras, smart metering, and drones for monitoring traffic and collecting geographic data.
Suphachai said True was ready to bid for the 4G spectrum licences to be auctioned by the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission in November.
He said the company was interested in bidding for licences on both the 1,800- and 900-megahertz spectra as the company needs more bandwidth to enhance its existing 4G service and adopt new technology.
The NBTC will auction two licences on each of the two spectra. The 1,800MHz auction is scheduled for November 11 but it has yet to finalise the 900MHz auction date.
