DHL backs tree-planting project to honour HM the Queen

Logistics company DHL has marked Her Majesty's 83rd birthday by collaborating with the Royal Forest Department, the Royal Thai Naval Air Division and U-tapao International Airport in planting 1,800 mahogany, rosewood and teak trees on 9 rai (14,400 squar

Fifty DHL employees helped in organising and directly participating in this recent “Ton Kla” tree-planting project as part of Deutsche Post DHL Group’s annual Global Volunteer Day activity.
DHL says these efforts to conserve Thailand’s natural resources and reduce forest destruction are aligned with the company’s commitment to work with local authorities and experts to promote sustainable development throughout the country.
The Royal Forest Department has confirmed its goal of increasing the forest area in Thailand from its current level of 32 per cent of the country (102 million rai) to 40 per cent (129 million rai) by 2025.
“Sustainable environmental protection and forest restoration are a core part of a deep heritage at DHL in Thailand and our passionate employees,” said Chananyarak Phetcharat, managing director for Thailand and Indochina at DHL Express. “It is a great honour for all of us at DHL Express to celebrate Her Majesty’s 83rd birthday together with the Royal Thai Naval Air Division and U-tapao International Airport in a way that pays tribute to the natural wonders of Thailand. We look forward to continuing to instil values of corporate responsibility and sustainability within our employees and partners, and share our commitment to reduce harmful carbon-dioxide emissions and to protect these treasures for as long as possible.
“In DHL, we take pride in our approach that places the highest possible priority on protecting natural resources and the environment,” Chananyarak said.
By 2020, Deutsche Post DHL Group aims to improve its carbon-dioxide efficiency – including that of its subcontractors – by 30 per cent over the 2007 baseline. Last year the group improved its carbon efficiency by 23 per cent compared with 2007, while DHL Thailand achieved an outstanding performance with a 36.2-per-cent improvement in 2013.
