Wellness-themed resort in Saraburi promotes itself overseas

BAAN SOUCHADA Resort and Spa, a wellness- and organic-themed resort in Saraburi province, is promoting activities to appeal to overseas markets and to high-spending Thais.

Seksan Sukcharoen, general manager said the resort was owned and developed by a French architect, Christophe Leoni, who is now based in Dubai. The resort was opened two years ago on a 70-rai (11.2-hectare) plot in Kaeng Khoi district in Saraburi province. It claims to be one of the biggest wellness resorts in the country.
He said the 32-room property had been developed with a budget of Bt100 million and was the only five-star resort in the province.
“The resort highlights a combination of several themes: spa and wellness, organic resort [foods], and modern Thai-designed accommodation. Room rates here start from Bt4,000 up to Bt30,000 per night,” he said.
Aside from the main themes, the resort offers other activities such as rice growing, horse riding, biking, golfing, meditation, and beauty courses, as well as a group meeting room.
Seksan said 70 per cent of its customers were from the local market, while Britain, Taiwan and Japan supplied much of the overseas clientele.
“We have no seasonal period like most hotels as we are running an average occupancy rate of more than 60 per cent throughout the year. Many regular customers return to the resort,” he said. This year, the resort is focusing more on online marketing along with participating in travel fairs.
As it has no direct rival in the area, the operator plans to increase the number of expatriate customers, those who are working at industrial estates in the province. It also expects to bring in more guests from overseas via online travel companies during the coming high season.
Saraburi welcomes about 4 million tourists per year. The province plans to promote itself as offering green tourism.
Seksan said the owner of the hotel was looking at investment opportunities in other areas such as Cha-am beach in Phetchaburi province.
