900MHZ WINNERS MUST USE SPECTRUM

The winners of 900MHz licences at Tuesday’s auction are prohibited from allowing other parties to use the spectrum to provide services on their behalf, warned Takorn Tantasith, secretary-general of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission.
He said yesterday that the rules obliged the holders of the licences to provide services themselves.
He responded to rumours that successful bidders planned to ask other parties to utilise the spectrum by providing services on their behalf.
The commission will auction off two 900MHz telecom licences on Tuesday.

THAI FIRM EYES JAPAN POWER PLANT PROJECT
Thai-German Products and Japan’s Yumeya Co yesterday signed a memorandum of understanding to conduct a feasibility study for the construction of a 20-megawatt power plant in Japan.

The MoU may be extended upon mutual agreement.

VIETNAM MAY BE NEXT ‘TIGER ECONOMY’
Vietnam has bucked the sluggish growth trend in emerging Asian markets, said Standard & Poor’s.
The revelation was contained in a Standard & Poor’s Rating Services report published yesterday titled “Vietnam Could Be the Next Tiger Economy”.
It said foreign direct investment had been pouring into the country’s electronics sector, providing a strong boost to exports.
It said that as traditional East Asian manufacturing hubs moved up the value chain and became expensive, Vietnam had lured manufacturing companies with its cheap, expanding labour force and openness to foreign capital.
In stark contrast, the Asia-Pacific region has seen slower growth, sluggish trade and financial market volatility this year, it said, adding that the outlook for 2016 was not looking much brighter.

VINMART+ TOPS STORE CHAINS IN VIETNAM

With more than 200 stores, the Vinmart+ chain has become the largest convenience store chain in Vietnam after just a year of operation, real estate developer Vingroup announced.
Vinmart+ stores were developed together with Vinmart supermarkets on a smaller scale (with an area of less than 500 sqm) to serve customers in a more condensed area with a diverse selection of goods for the daily needs. The chain provides clean vegetables from Da Lat and also agricultural products of the group's Vineco brand while other products are served with a clear origin and quality assurance.
Customers of the chain can experience the superior value through daily attractive deals, the group said.
The group expected to have 300 stores nationwide by this year-end and develop 3,000 stores by 2016 to serve the growing demand of customers. — Viet Nam News
