Mall signs elevator deal with Jardine Schindler

The Mall Group has struck a deal with Jardine Schindler (Thai) Ltd for elevators, escalators and moving walks for its shopping mall projects.

The contract’s value was not disclosed in yesterday’s statement from Jardine Schindler.

It just said the contract calls for the installation of 60 Schindler 5500 elevators, 212 Schindler 9300 AE escalators and six moving walks for five projects – The EmSphere, BLU PORT, BLU Pearl and Bangkok Mall – as well as The Mall Korat, which is being revamped.

Suwanna Kongkanjana, managing director of Jardine Schindler (Thai), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Jardine Schindler Group, acknowledged the significance of this contract.

"We are delighted that The Mall Group chose Schindler as their mobility partner for these landmark projects. It is an honour to contribute to such a tremendous expansion plan."

The Mall Group is well on its way to completing the EM District in downtown Bangkok, with EmSphere as the last piece of the jigsaw.

The district, comprising The Emporium Shopping Complex, EmQuartier and EmSphere, will host over 1,000 leading Thai and international brands.

The flagship Bangkok Mall mixed-use project is designed to become a city within the city, with business, residential and office space.

In Hua Hin, BLU Port will be opened along with BLU Pearl in Phuket, offering a convention and exhibition centre, resort hotel and theme parks.

Supaluck Umpujh, chairwoman of The Mall Group, said recently that Thailand’s participation in the Asean Economic Community would transform the country into a leading regional shopping hub and top tourist destination.

The group expects arrivals to hit 40 million soon, which should boost business at local shopping malls. The Mall Group’s Power Mall is holding its annual sales fair from tomorrow to January 5, aiming to generate at least Bt450 million.
