MoxyBilna merger creates online shopping platform for females

MOXY, A Southeast Asian women-focused shopping destination, and Bilna, an Indonesian mother’s and baby’s shopping platform, have announced the completion of a strategic company merger to form MoxyBilna.

The merger brings together two of Southeast Asia’s leading e-commerce platforms, creating an online destination dedicated solely to serve the region’s rapidly growing female economy. It also marks one of Southeast Asia’s largest e-commerce M&A events of its kind to date.
“This partnership will make MoxyBilna a leading e-commerce player in the region,” said Jeremy Fichet, former group chief executive of Moxy.
“Bilna’s strong positioning and footprint in Indonesia, coupled with Moxy’s strengths within the women e-commerce ecosystem in Thailand and Indonesia, makes the new entity a serious Tier 1 player, staking the entity’s flag on ‘No 1 Shopping Destination for Women in Southeast Asia’.”
Ferry Tenka, former Indonesia CEO for Bilna, said: “With this move, we have more than doubled our buying power and transaction volumes, ultimately creating more meaningful economies of scale and allowing us to offer even better offerings to our hungry customers.
“By coming together as a joint entity, we are now well positioned in both Thailand and Indonesia to accelerate our growth and country expansion timetable by over 18 months.”
Under the terms of the merger, current Fichet has been appointed as group CEO of MoxyBilna, and the current Bilna CFO, Eka Himawan, has been appointed as group CFO of the merged company.

The women vision
Regionally, women are driving the growth of online shopping, with 63 per cent of them browsing for products and services at least once a day, and 49 per cent preferring online to offline shopping already.
The importance of women in online shopping is expected to increase, as 53 per cent of Indonesia’s workforce consists of females, while in Thailand the figure is 47 per cent.
Demographic data show that the number of women in senior roles in Indonesia and Thailand has also increased over the years, at 41 and 38 per cent respectively. With that, women are becoming more predominant, with heavy influence on the decision-making in the purchase of household goods.
Meanwhile, Thailand has the highest proportion of female CEOs globally at 49 per cent.
“The [MoxyBilna] merger brings together an experienced team with proven results with the passion and deep understanding of women’s needs and customer behaviour,” said Shannon Kalayanamitr, group chief marketing officer of MoxyBilna. “This amplifies the shared vision to fuel the female economy in Southeast Asia focusing on the vastly under-served needs of the woman consumer.
“Expect great things from us this year.”
