KTB president Vorapak not seeking second term

KRUNGTHAI BANK president Vorapak Tanyawong will not seek a second term when his first term ends on November 8, saying his mission to lay a firm foundation is completed.

The bank’s contract allows a president to serve two four-year terms.
Vorapak’s predecessor, current Finance Minister Apisak Tantivorawong, was KTB president for two terms.
The bank opened applications for the next president on Tuesday and is accepting them until July 15.
Vorapak, 52, said yesterday that he was happy with his success in strengthening human resources and risk management and moving into digital banking.
The foundation is the first of three summits under the bank’s seven-year plan (2015-21).
He hopes that his successor will continue the bank’s seven-year plan (2015-21) and make KTB the best place to work, which is the third summit.
With the rapid rise of technology, the bank’s processes must deal with the change. It has the mission to bring unbanked customers into the banking system.
Before joining KTB, Vorapak was chief executive officer at Finansa Securities and a senior executive vice president at Siam Commercial Bank.
He held senior management positions at JPMorgan Chase Thailand and Deutsche Bank. He was Bank of America’s manager for Thailand.
Vorapak, whose banking career stretches 27 years, admitted that working at KTB was the biggest challenge because besides its large scale, its stakeholder structure was convoluted and needed effort to handle.
After stepping down from |this position, Vorapak might enter the digital industry, which can help support banking businesses included KTB.
