“Thailand is an important market for New Zealand businesses,” Karen Campbell, New Zealand’s trade commissioner to Thailand, said yesterday.
This week 13 senior business delegates arrived from New Zealand.
New Zealand says its companies offer a range of complementary products that are of interest to Thai consumers, for example, safe, traceable food products that can’t be grown here, such as cold-water seafood, apples and boysenberries.
New Zealand also provides a range of business products and services that are helping Thai industries grow such as health information-technoloyg systems, aviation products and services, and waste-management systems.
Since the signing of the New Zealand-Thailand Closer Economic Partnership in 2005, a reduction in tariffs has led to increased trade between the two countries, which reached 2.84 billion New Zealand dollars (Bt71.7 billion) last year.
A trade and business-matching event was organised by the Asean NZ Business Council in conjunction with Export New Zealand and New Zealand Trade and Enterprise.
The mission was visiting from Sunday to yesterday to explore added-value food and beverages, innovative technology and education.
On their four-day visit, the delegates were scheduled to experience the magnitude of business opportunities in Thailand, deep-dive into the retail environment, meet with the Board of Investment, engage with high-level government officials, build connections and exchange knowledge with key decision-makers.
Thailand is New Zealand’s eighth-largest trading partner.
