Software alliance adds to reward money

BSA, a global anti-piracy alliance backed by Microsoft, has increased the maximum reward for informants who report infringements of software copyright in businesses from Bt250,000 to Bt1 million in an effort to reduce the widespread use of illegal software in Thailand.
The new reward is available until October 20 for informants who report the use of illegal software in businesses with 100 personal computers or more and businesses using software worth Bt1.8 million or more. This reward applies for all private businesses using illegal software.
The reports can be made online at www.bsa.org. The identities of informants will be kept confidential, BSA said in a statement.
In its previous raids, a large number of companies were found to be using illegal software in Bangkok, Samut Prakan, Chon Buri, Rayong, Nonthaburi, Nakhon Pathom and Pathum Thani. BSA said each month about 100 people reported illegal software use in companies. The damage bill from software piracy in Thailand is about US$1 billion (Bt35 billion) a year, the organisation claims.

TOT spared paying Bt9 bn to True

The Supreme Administration Court yesterday upheld a 2012 Central Administrative Court verdict after it overturned a ruling by an arbitration panel that found TOT had to pay True Corp Bt9.17 billion as a result of the former providing special services on True’s fixed-line network under a concession contract with the agency.
True sought the arbitration ruling in the case in late 2002, demanding a share of benefits gained by TOT for providing the services.
The arbitration panel ruled in 2006 that TOT had to pay True Bt9.175 billion.
The Central Administrative Court terminated the arbitration panel’s ruling.
