Da Nang port on Thursday hit the 7-million-tonne mark and handled 300,000 containers for the year after the docking of the cargo ship “Willi”, which operates under the flag of the Marshall Islands.
The cargo from Willi helped Da Nang port in Da Nang City achieve its yearly target.
Nguyen Huu Sia, general director of the Da Nang Port Joint-Stock Company, said this was an important event marking the port’s development efforts.
In 2016, and although the maritime industry was in recession, Da Nang Port still overcame many challenges to achieve positive results.
It is expected to unload 7.25 million tonnes of goods by the year-end, including 320,000 containers, up 13 per cent in terms of goods and 24 per cent in terms of containers, from 2015. – Viet Nam News
Bid to boost tourism to Vietnam’s beach
Myanmar government representatives and the tourism development committee at Ngayoatkaung Beach in Ngapudaw Township, Ayeyarwady Region, have met MPs to plan a scheme to boost visitor numbers.
The main obstacles facing tourism development in the area are limited accommodation for foreigners and electricity and transport issues, according to Win Soe from the tourism committee.
“Vehicles cannot reach one resort and no visitors come although it has many attractions,” said Win Soe.
The minister for urban development for Ayeyarwady Region, Kyaw Myint, said the regional ministry of hotels and tourism had produced guidelines for the success of tourism to boost the economy while preserving the environment. - Myanmar Eleven
Call to scrap contentious Myanmar telecom law
A panel has called for Myanmar’s Telecommunications Law’s controversial Section 66(d) to be scrapped, says Thura Shwe Mann, chairman of Legal Affairs and Special Cases Assessment Commission.
Anyone can sue anyone else under the section for alleged online abuse, regardless of whether they were the subject of a remark.
It carries a threat of up to three years in prison and suspects are normally refused bail, which is deeply controversial for alleged defamation, meaning it is often used to jail journalists and politicians without trial.
Former speaker Thura Shwe Mann and his committee met civil social organisations at the Mandalay City Hall on Friday.
He mentioned the case of Chit Thami who was charged under Section 66(d) for sharing a satirical Facebook post deemed insulting to the military.
The case illustrated the inconsistency with whether bail was offered, the former general said. – Myanmar Eleven
