Somsakul Phaochindamuk, director of NOW26, Nation Multimedia Group’s digital TV channel for variety programmes, said the station had seen consistent rises in the number of viewers throughout the past three years thanks to its improved variety programmes and its intention to be the country’s No 1 documentary channel. “Our channel has seen diverse viewers extending from families to working-age people, and viewers in other provinces who know us from our sports broadcasts during holidays,” he said.
NOW26’s rating is 0.225 for January, up from 0.096 in the same month last year, when it was ranked 15th among the country’s digital TV channels. Its rating growth tops its rivals at 134 per cent.
The documentary channel employed several strategies to attract viewers, from out-of-home advertising media in Bangkok and its vicinities, to advertisements on BTS trains, green tourism projects and family activities at its studio, Somsakul said.
NOW26 will this year offer high-quality documentaries from the British Broadcasting Corporation and National Geographic, and other leading producers in other countries including Austria, France, Germany, and Australia, as well as Thailand.
NOW26 also broadcasts popular sports events, another major foundation for the channel, particularly Thai boxing.
“This year, NOW26 is queuing up three programmes of Thai boxing competitions throughout the week,” Somsakul said.
