This second phase of the voucher programme is for the 1.17 million registered households that missed out on receiving the coupons in the earlier phase because of a distribution problem, 407,162 newly registered households, and households with temporary registrations.
“The period of notification started yesterday and goes to March 1. Eligible households can redeem their vouchers from March 2 to September 2,” Takorn Tantasith, secretary-general of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC), said yesterday.
Letters will be sent to target groups that have the right to redeem the vouchers for the purchase of a digital set-top box, TV set with a built-in digital tuner, or a hybrid set-top box that can receive both digital terrestrial and satellite TV.
To redeem the coupons, holders are required to present their identification cards at authorised counter service points at leading modern trade retailers, convenience stores and registration centres at Thailand Post offices.
The national transition from analog to digital terrestrial TV started after the launch of digital television broadcasting in 2014.
In the first round, the NBTC provided 13.57 million coupons to some households nationwide, of which 8.77 million coupons or 64 per cent were redeemed.
During this new phase, the redemption rate is expected to pass 65 per cent, Takorn said.
