Thaicom revenue slides 7.5% for year

SATELLITE OPERATOR Thaicom says it generated a consolidated revenue from sales of goods and services of Bt11.51 billion for last year, down Bt936 million, or 7.5 per cent, from Bt12.45 billion in 2015.

The company said the fall was mainly the result of a revenue drop from both its satellite business and its Internet and media businesses, together with increased costs relating to the Thaicom 8 satellite commercialisation at the beginning of the third quarter of 2016. As a result, the operating profit for 2016 was Bt1.93 billion, down Bt1.04 billion, or 35 per cent, from Bt2.98 billion for 2015, according to a statement yesterday.
Thaicom reported a consolidated net profit of Bt1.61 billion or Bt1.47 per share, a decrease of Bt510 million or 24 per cent from Bt2.12 billion, or Bt1.94 per share for 2015.
In other areas of the company’s operations, its Internet and media subsidiary, CS LoxInfo, continued to expand Internet broadband in condominiums, resulting in 10,620 subscribers at the end of 2016, growth of 134.6 per cent compared with 2015.
Revenue from its Internet Data Centre service also continued to grow from the corporate customer base.
Lao Telecommunications Co Ltd (LTC), the company’s telephone operation in that country, recorded total mobile subscribers of 2,059,104 at the end of 2016, compared with 1,947,996 subscribers at the end of 2015.
Thaicom said Lao Telecommunications was ranked No1 in the market last year with a 53.7 per cent share, up from 52 per cent on the year.
Lao Telecommunication’s revenue also increased, especially from its data business from both mobile and Internet SIM, Thaicom said.
LTC received the Medal of Labour, First Class, from the Lao government.
The company was honoured for its outstanding business performance and the value it has created through the development and expansion of telecommunications networks throughout Laos.
It said the recognition demonstrated the close relationship between LTC and Lao government as they continued to work towards further developments together.
