YEN-D 4.0 project to help grow border trade

YEN-D 4.0 project to help grow border trade

THE COMMERCE Ministry is going ahead with its plan to boost the value of border trade to Bt1.8 trillion this year, while continuing the Young Entrepreneur Network Development (YEN-D) project to build up a network of new-generation business operators in Thailand and neighbouring countries.

After the launch of the third season of project yesterday, dubbed “YEN-D 4.0”, Commerce Minister Apiradi Tantraporn said her ministry aimed to increase the value of border trade to Bt1.8 trillion in 2017, from Bt1.47 trillion last year.
The key target is to develop new checkpoints and improve the existing ones, she said.
Meanwhile, the YEN-D project is going into its third generation, concentrating on extension of cooperation between Thai business operators and those in the neighbouring countries near the borders.
Emphasis will also be placed on the transformation to digital technology, with marketing plans on social media.
The YEN-D project is expected to help increase this year’s trade value.
At yesterday’s launch of YEN-D 4.0, the Department of Foreign Trade signed a memorandum of understanding with Thai Airways International and AEC Trading Centre to promote the participants in the YEN-D project through lower costs for trade expansion and investment in neighbouring countries.
THAI will provide discounted tickets for the operators to take part in YEN-D Season 3, while AEC Trading Centre, an Asean central market gathering products and services nationwide and imported products from neighbouring countries, will open areas for them to distribute their products and services at special prices.
YEN-D Season 3 has drawn up a plan for 240 participants in four phases. The first is Thailand-Cambodia, the second Thailand-Laos, the third Thailand-Myanmar and the fourth Thailand-Vietnam.
