The Office of Agricultural Economics forecasts Thailand's agricultural gross domestic product (GDP) will expand 3.5 to 4.5 per cent in the first quarter from the year-earlier period following price rises in agricultural products.
In the fourth quarter of last year, the growth was 2.2 per cent.
This year's agricultural GDP growth is targeted at 2.5 to 3.5 per cent, likely driven by further rises in agricultural prices, a favourable climate, government policies and an overall economic recovery.
In 2016, farm household income rose 6 per cent, beating a 3 per cent target.
Cash income climbed 6 per cent to Bt283,259 per household for the year. Of total cash income, 52 per cent was farm income and the remainder came from non-farm income, including outside employment, during the dry season and the periods for value-added processing.
Government policies for the agricultural sector, cost reduction and water management were cited for the rise in the farm household income.
Chachoengsao province led the way for central Thailand with its average farm income of Bt410,712 per household, while Phetchabun province was th4 standout in the north with average farm income of Bt254,098 per household.
In the South, Krabi province stood out its average farm income of Bt247,913 per household and in the Northeast, Nakhon Ratchasima led with Bt197,967.
These four provinces were regarded as the so-called smart agriculture centres of 2016 for the use of efficient management systems that heightened production per rai and reduced agricultural production costs.
In 2016, the top five agricultural exports were rice, rubber, fruit and its products, fish and its products, and tapioca.
This year is expected to see a favourable market trend for shrimp and related products, fresh fruit and fruit products, and chicken products. New products with export opportunities include sweet corn, nut products, livestock products, and fruit such as durian. Major export destinations include the Asean countries, China, Japan, the United States and the European Union.
DAN THAILAND IN STRATEGIC SHIFT, AIMS TO BE LEADER IN INTEGRATED COMMUNICATION
Dentsu Aegis Network Thailand (DAN Thailand) has announced a business plan for this year that it says will make the company a leader in integrated communications.
The plan, which the company says involves a “shift in innovative branding”, was announced by Vichai Suphasomboon, non-executive chairman, and Amornsak Sakpuaram, executive chairman.
The company expects growth of about 10 per cent for the group this year. Last year, billing gained from media was about Bt27 billion, after the agency added 23 clients.
"The main factor that makes DAN Thailand what it is, with an average growth rate of more than 10 per cent every year, is that we have the tools to develop and meet the needs of clients including media,” Amornsak said.
“We have Fortuna2, Prism and Programmatic for the media planning; CCS and Sense Asia for brand planning; and digital Lab and Now Lab for digital.
“With all this, Dentsu Aegis Network Thailand can offer the best to our clients.”
