The Klong Luang SPP power plant, a wholly owned subsidiary of Electricity Generating Plc, started commercially supplying electricity to the national grid on Thursday.
Chanin Chaonirattisai, acting president of Egco Group, said the new power plant would constantly generate more revenues for the company with its earnings to start being recognised this quarter.
“The power plant using a cogeneration system has an advantage in supporting efficient fuel consumption, which partly enhances the country’s power security,” he said.
The power plant, situated in Pathum Thani’s Klong Luang district, is fuelled by natural gas. It has total installed capacity of 121 megawatts comprising two gas turbines producing 47MW each and a 27MW steam turbine.
It sells 90MW to the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand under a 25-year firm power purchase agreement under the small power plant scheme.
The rest of the output will be sold to industrial users.
