PTT turns to renewables while heightening LNG focus as strategy kicks in

PTT Plc is gearing up to invest in renewable energy along with expanding its main businesses.

It will invest in the supply chain of liquefied natural gas (LNG), while focusing its five-year investment on the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC).
Tevin Vongvanich, president and chief executive officer of PTT, said that as part of its so-called 3D strategy, which starts with the concept of “Decide Now”, the firm will quicken its growth for future investment especially in renewable energy.
It will also invest more in the LNG supply chain and main businesses, and seek investment opportunities in the region and other countries.
The undertakings come after PTT’s executives and directors brainstormed on PTT’s linkage with the national strategy.
The other two parts of PTT3D are “Do Now”, which is aimed at increasing its business efficiency and upgrading technology, and “Design Now”, which seeks to expedite new businesses‘ growth via new opportunities and new businesses such as the electricity value chain and bio-based value chain.
PTT’s 2017-21 plan is centred on the EEC with projects such as an LNG terminal, |natural gas transmission pipelines, |modernisation of refineries and petrochemical plants, and ventures in the bio industry and robotics.
The firm restructured its oil unit to compete freely and its shareholding in the petrochemical business to boost business value.
A corporate venture capital team and Express Solutions (ExpresSo) team were established to invest for extension of its businesses.
PTT strengthened its corporate |social responsibility programme by |establishing a social enterprise to seek investment with community participation and ownership.
PTT posted a second-quarter net profit of Bt31.32 million, down Bt14.85 billion from the previous quarter, while its first-half net profit surged 59.6 per cent year on year to Bt77.48 billion.
