The Thai export sector could expand by 5.5 to 6 per cent this year, thanks to growth in the global economy, according to TMB Analytics.
Exports, which showed signs of recovery starting in the fourth quarter last year, continued to grow by 7.8 per cent – the highest rate in six years – during the first half of 2017, with a shipment value of US$113.5 billion (Bt3.8 trillion).
First-half exports to all major markets were boosted by higher oil prices compared to the same period in 2016, the recovering global economy, and particularly the continuous expansion of global production since the third quarter last year, the report said.
However, TMB Analytics predicted that second-half export growth would be less spectacular, forecasting it at 3.5 to 4 per cent.
